The George C. Wallace collection documents Wallace's political career, ca. 1951-1986. This period includes Wallace's five Ala. gubernatorial campaigns and his three presidential campaigns. This collection provides valuable insight into George C. Wallace's governorship of Alabama and his presidential ambitions. The correspondence and contribution information contained in the collection reflects the wide-spread support Wallace maintained during his political career. The administrative files include documentation from Wallace's gubernatorial administrations and his various political campaigns. Also contained in the collection are routine administrative records. Financial information is provided through the various records of expenditures, contributions and bank records. Included in this category are a variety of financial records pertaining to savings and checking accounts, wage and tax statements, deposit records, canceled checks, check registers, campaign contributions and expense receipts. Non-administrative material in the George C. Wallace collection consists of a large quantity of campaign and personal photographs, various published works acquired by Wallace, certificates of appreciation, plaque awards and gifts from Wallace supporters. Items transferred out of the George C. Wallace collection, to the museum collection include artifacts ranging from artwork, personally crafted gifts and campaign memorabilia. Also transferred out of the collection are audio and video tapes, transparencies, phonograph records, negatives and computer tapes, all pertaining to George C. Wallace's political career.
